NEW SINGLE: Don't Thank Me, Spank Me! 'Hey Woman' + Announce Debut Album

Don’t Thank Me, Spank Me! Go Gritty With New Single ‘Hey Woman’
+ Announce debut self-titled album

Don’t Thank Me, Spank Me!
is the genius combination of best friends Nitida Atkinson and Esther Henderson, who create sublime songwriting, and share good hair and matching Fender Mustangs - (think the Aussie Fran Fines on dexies, sipping cheap chardonnay and wielding loud guitars).

Hot off the GAYTIMES Festival stage, the duo are dropping ‘Hey Woman’ on Thursday 29 February showcasing the grittier and punchier side of the best friend duo’s songwriting, recorded around one mic and acoustic guitar sounds ala Ween, this little ditty comes as they prepare to unleash their debut self titled independent album on Friday 24th May. To celebrate all things new and shiny, the BFF's along with drummer Myka Wallace will be bringing the DTMSM party to Brunswick Music Festival and Gumball Festival stages this March and April.

From the get-go the 'Hey Woman' isn’t shy in its anti-capitalist message, directed at single use superficiality, Kardashian culture and the phony housewives and bored husbands of the upper class.  Starting with a catchy and simple acoustic guitar, the attitude laden first verse gets straight to the point, asking Hey woman! What you gonna do with that fancy car when you are dead?” The ‘nah nah nah’ vocals are whiney enough to imagine the characters clear as day, and nostalgic enough to be able to sing along to immediately. The recurring breakdown steps down slightly with cutesy mean girl rap lyrics sung by bassist Esther Henderson, and we’re taken out by the sing-a-long lyric and melody “too many dollars and not enough sense.”

“Hey Woman is basically a big fuck you to rich housewives who live in a bubble of pretty things, low-fat lattes, status anxiety, big cars and cappo husbands. We’re saying, what are you gonna do with all your fancy stuff when you die? Cos you can’t take it all through the pearly gates. Don’t get us wrong, we love beautiful things and we love making money. We’re just trying to say, don’t misplace your manners inside that giant Gucci handbag, whoever you are. You can be rich without being a douchebag, right?" - Don't Thank Me, Spank Me!

Having grown a cult following in Naarm/Melbourne playing the usual haunts with acts such as Cong Josie, Blonde Revolver, Bad Dreems, and Jazz Party, performed at Dark Mofo (2023), Wide Open Spaces Festival (2023), Wonder Mountain Festival (2023) and a pop-up performance in the shop front of renowned fashion designer Alice Edgley’s store.

Don't miss Don't Thank Me, Spank Me! live this autumn and your chance to experience a sound will take you to a parallel universe where the Runaways hung out with Britney Spears and cooked up guitar-heavy 80s bangers with garage-girl-group harmonies and attitude!
