Audrey Powne releases second single ‘From The Fire’ and announces debut album out Friday 26 April via BBE

Producer and multi-instrumentalist Audrey Powne is back with a story of rebirth with the second single ‘From The Fire’, out now with the full single package released ‘Friday 1 March’. Released on independent UK record label BBE, ‘From The Fire’ is the second single and title track from Audrey’s debut album slated for release on Friday 26 April 2024. Following the first single ‘Feed The Fire’, which saw her added to community radio across Australia including PBS FM, 2SER, Aussie Music Weekly, and Edge Radio, and UK radio love from BBC Radio 6 and BBC Radio 2, Jazz FM UK, Worldwide FM, and more, this next single delves further into Audrey’s prowess as one of Australia's leading composers and self produced artists.

From The Fire’ explores optimism and a sensation of re-birth and second chances, finding strength in feeling like a new person and the positivity that it may lead to new experiences and growth. Written and produced by Audrey at Sing Sing East Studios in Naarm/Melbourne mixed by Russel Fawcus (Mo'Ju, Kylie Auldist, Slum Sociable), and mastered by Grammy award nominated Frank Merritt at The Carvery in London. ‘From The Fire’ washes the groove laden instrumentation with layered choral harmonies and layered solos, influenced by two of Audrey’s biggest inspirations; Herbie Hancock and Raoy Hargrove

‘The groove and harmonic content is inspired by the music of Herbie Hancock particularly his 70s albums “Secrets” and “Sunlight” which have been a huge influence on me and from which I absorbed a lot of language. The layered, harmonised trumpet solo is directly inspired by late, great trumpet player Roy Hargrove who is the most profound influence on me as a trumpeter and who employed similar recording techniques on his records with The RH Factor.’ - Audrey Powne

Drawing from experiences in her own life and watching the world around her, Audrey’s debut LP From The Fire is one complete body of work; cover to cover telling her story of recovery and persistence, but most importantly survival. Connecting each track through reappearing motifs and themes, the material travels through her own experiences in ‘Sleep’, ‘Survival’ and ‘From The Fire’, and critiques of systems and powers at play in ‘Indigo’ and first single ‘Feed The Fire’, opened by a theatre styled ‘Overture’. Drawing on influences including Bill EvansArchie Shepp, and many more, From The Fire blends genres of jazz and neo soul, into moments of hip-hop, with instrumental interludes that spotlight her career performing trumpet.

‘Life is cyclical, the last track on the album is intentionally dark and dramatic… there is always something new to face around the corner.’ - Audrey Powne

As Audrey embraces all evolutions as a musician and composer, her style is hard to pin down, from hook-laden synth pop songs to longform cinematic soundscapes, RnB ballads and free jazz improvisations, there are few genres she has not touched. Her talents in Melbourne jazz and soul scenes have seen her lead various pop/RnB projects Leisure Centre and Au Dré as both a vocalist and trumpeter, embarking on numerous co-writing and string-arranging collaborations with local artists  Thndo, Kylie Auldist and The Wanderers, and performing across Melbourne and International music scenes with acts including Maceo Parker, Midnight Oil, Jimmy Barnes, Jose Gonzalez, Masta Ace and the Grammy nominated band The Teskey Brothers, and more.

Celebrate this new chapter of music with Audrey as she unleashes this new creative vision.
