The wait for Stellar Moon's debut album is over as she releases PHASES, filled with songs inspired by her journey of healing and empowerment, "Just like the Moon, we all go through patches of both darkness and luminance in life, sometimes we bask in the light and sometimes we hang out in the shadow. It’s all needed and important. No matter what phase we are in, like the Moon, we are still always whole."
Hailing from the ancient lands of the Kimberly, proud Nyikina Jarndoo (woman) Stellar Moon draws on inspiration from her work as a life coach and sound healer, and the stories and experiences of her students and clients, PHASES is steeped in her journey of healing and empowerment. With a love of human behaviour and what drives people and sets us alike and apart, this work moves through her emotional discovery of feeling okay, moving through thick cloaks of self-doubt and criticism, to finding her footing to take the next step and be ready to shine.
Amongst her sonic stories that travel through moments of darkness and lumniance, each track is matched with a different phase of the moon, with new moon album opener 'Mundajarra' as feature single. Meaning ‘People’ in Nyikina Nganka (language) opens the album with a dear Nyikina elder, Jeannie Wabi, singing out in language ‘hurry up everyone, come here now, hurry up!’.
Mundajarra is the first song I ever wrote in my mob’s language so it holds a special place in my heart. New Moon. The first about 20 times I sang it I just cried and cried. I’m really passionate about voices (our voices), about freeing the voice, using the voice, healing the hurts of the voice from the many times we’ve been silenced and suppressed, especially women and especially minority group women and language of course entwines with that' - Stellar Moon
Stellar Moon is both a musician & visual artist, romanced by the Moon and teacher of her phases. She has toured WA extensively and supported Australian greats such as Daryl Braithwaite and The Waifs, sharing her songs to awaken the power within so listeners may rebel enough to question the status quo, stand up for their country, fall radically in love with themselves and learn to live in unapologetic full expression of themselves.
