NEW SINGLE: Momoko Rose 'softboi' + Launch Show at Mamma Chen's

Encounter the complexities of modern relationships in misfit Momoko Rose’s new single ‘softboi’
+ Naarm single launch at Mamma Chen’s with Catie Alison and Wild Gloriosa

Melbourne misfit Momoko Rose’s unique brand of edgy softness emerges in her latest single ‘softboi’ out Friday 3 November, drawing you into her musical realms of wistfulness and wit. Channelling her experience as a queer Japanese-Australian artist, Momoko Rose challenges conventions through ambiguity and contradictions; a feminine aesthetic charged with masculine energy. Celebrating this next release in full style, Momoko Rose and her band will take the stage at Mamma Chen’s, Footscray’s iconic mother and daughter owned venue, joined by Catie Alison and Wild Gloriosa on Friday 24 November.

A whimsical encapsulation of a dreary dating scene and the complexities of modern relationships, 'softboi' departs from Momoko’s previous folk sound, collaborating with producer Rino Darusman. Drawing inspiration from otherworldly women in R&B and folk — Björk, Raveena, yeule and Japanese folk singer Ichiko Aoba Momoko crafts ethereal soundscapes that intertwine lush chords pierced by dynamic beats. Although the lyrics are playful and simple, "softboi" exposes the covert ways in which toxic masculinity impacts relationships and society.

"The inspiration for 'softboi' came from observing my friends’ dating experiences and I view it as having a double meaning – serving as both an empathetic ‘fuck you’ and an anthem for sensitive souls who struggle with intimacy." - Momoko Rose

Despite her first love for folk music, Momoko Rose’s sound is constantly evolving and breaking genre boundaries. She wields her vulnerability as an instrument of healing. Supported by the dreamy sounds of Catie Alison and soul soaked Wild Gloriosa, Momoko Rose is stepping into this new chapter with an enchanting evening at Mamma Chen’s, for a night filled with heartfelt storytelling and the divine voices of up and coming songstresses.

This November, prepare to be captivated by a performance that will have you laughing, shedding a tear and dancing, all while witnessing the inexplicable charm of Footscray’s very own Momoko Rose.
