MUSIC NEWS: Audrey Powne returns for Melbourne and Sydney Shows
Audrey Powne returns to Australia for Melbourne and Sydney to launch her acclaimed debut LP From The Fire
Returning to Melbourne for her first headline show in almost two years, producer and multi-instrumentalist Audrey Powne is playing shows this October for the Melbourne International Jazz Festival and Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival this October. Ahead of her homecoming, she is releasing a double vinyl remix album of her debut LP ‘From The Fire’, a treasure trove of sonic brilliance featuring both new and released interpretations of her tracks, out Friday 4 October via UK label BBE.
Performing ‘From The Fire’ in its entirety for the first time with a full band and string quartet, Audrey Powne will take to the stage at Brunswick’s Howler on Thursday 24 October as a part of Melbourne International Jazz Festival 2024, with support from local jazz pianist and composer Barney McAll with Daniel Merriweather and Rita Satch. Bringing to life her hook-laden synth-pop and long-form cinematic soundscapes, the band and Audrey will also be performing the album at the Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival at Johnson St Jazz on Thursday 31 October.
Lauded by legendary BBC Radio 6 presenter and tastemaker Gilles Peterson, From The Fire has reached audiences across the UK and Australia, including community and National radio across the country. The new remix pack features a soulful interpretation from DJ and producer Joe Claussell, inspired by the album cut ‘Souled Out’ for three remixes, highlighting the unique elements of Audrey’s original production. ‘Joaquin's Deep Version’ merges the bassy textures of a vintage King Tubby dub with vibrant percussion and dance-inducing beats, ‘Joaquin’s Sacred Rhythm Mix’ weaves together sonic layers that culminate in a boogie-style crescendo, a dancefloor essential, and ‘The Cosmic Arts Interpretation Mix’ completes the trinity expertly with an enchanting downtempo mix, seasoned with orchestral and percussive elements. Joining Joe Claussell’s trio are the released renditions of ‘Feed The Fire’ from legendary deep house producer Atjazz and the dynamic New York duo musclecars.
