NEW SINGLE: Reb Fountain 'Come Down' + Aotearoa Shows
Reb Fountain unveils her unapologetic lyrical honesty in new single 'Come Down' + announces shows in Wellington + Auckland
Acclaimed songwriter Reb Fountain enters a new era with the release of her single ‘Come Down’, a coming of age journey imagined by her unapologetic lyrical honesty, and a video that encapsulates all the grit and grunge of adolescence. Reb’s music effortlessly combines pop elements with her trademark noir folk-punk sound, weaving authentic and anthemic tunes that create an instant and indelible impression. Offering fans an intimate first listen to her latest work, Reb and her band, Dave Khan, Karin Canzek and Earl Robertson, will be performing two exclusive shows in Wellington and Auckland this November to celebrate the release.
Out Tuesday 24 September, ‘Come Down’ is an anthemic unconventional pop single blending downbeat nostalgia with a sense of mystical, fearless confidence. The single was recorded at Neil Finn’s studio Roundhead Studios in Auckland, having worked with him on his live album ‘Out of Silence’ and her self titled record, and more recently featured in the studios premiere ‘Infinity Sessions’ starring Reb, Neil, Jimmy Barnes, Finn Andrews (The Veils), and Charlie Collins. ‘Come Down’ is a testament to Reb's evolution as an artist, inviting listeners to join her on an introspective ride through her new sound that oozing mellifluous pop.
A celebration of platonic love, the ‘Come Down’ visual accompaniment features real life best friends Lola & Eve, directed by Reb’s daughter Lola Fountain-Best, and shot by Reb herself. Filmed in locations around Tāmaki Makaurau, the video invites us to share in their love story over one night, a deep and heartfelt connection between two young women in the throes of youthful abandon through a lens of nostalgia.
‘In the ecstatic blur of the moment, you're reminded that you are born free, that you don’t have to be someone else to belong and that shining your light no matter how fragmented, broken or beautiful, brings joy and connection and hope.’ - Reb Fountain
A consummate recording artist and performer, Reb Fountain has captivated audiences with her live performances, selling out shows across New Zealand in some of Aotearoa’s most iconic theatres, making her Australian live debut at Womadelaide, and has supported the likes of ‘Crowded House’ on their ‘To The Island’ NZ tour, and Marlon Williams on his 2022 tour across UK and Europe. Her music has seen her awarded the Taite Music Prize in 2021, Best Country Music Album in Aotearoa Music Awards, and an APRA Best Song Award, with her last LP Iris debuting at No. 1 on the NZ Charts, and being gifted to Anthony Albanese by Jacinda Adern in Trans-Tasman exchange.
