NEW SINGLE: Alana Wilkinson 'Square One' Video and Single + Victorian Show
Relive Alana Wilkinson's adolescent awkwardness through her new single 'Square One' + Victorian launch show
After pulling on heartstrings far and wide with her songwriter and stories, Alana Wilkinson is taking it back to life's most embarrassing moments in her latest single 'Square One'. Out Friday 5 April via Gyrsotream, 'Square One' is the next glimpse of her upcoming LP due for release in the second half of 2024, which will see her expand her palate of musical colours and textures, delivering the dreamy and inspiring body of work that audiences have fallen in love with at her shows. Having recently returned from the US from this year's Folk Alliance International and completing the Festival of Small Halls tour and a Ross Wilson tour support, Alana will be celebrating the single with a headline show at Naarm/Melbourne's Wesley Anne on Friday 12 April, and Sofar Sounds performance with Angus Robb on Sunday 14 April.
Written with Paul Dyason from The Northern Folk, 'Square One' is packed with comedic moments and memories that will leave you nostalgic for adolescent awkwardness. With playful guitar riffs, tinges of country folk, and a catchy chorus, Alana unpacks her own experiences, from softball teams to punk rock performances to first dates, and the lessons along the way.
"It’s about a bunch of times I got busted trying to be cooler than I am, stepping into those awkward moments and owning them as part of my story. In this song, 'Square One' is my sense of self - it’s who we really are at our core and where I feel we have to come home to when we get busted in the middle of a fib." - Alana Wilkinson
Square One out Friday 5 April via Gyrostream
'The focus of this clip was to find the middle ground between edgy and fun. Poking fun at past traumas in as lighthearted way as possible. Alana’s concept was very reflective in nature and I wanted to match the visual with the song's upbeat feel. I was really happy that everything (including Melbourne's weather) panned out exactly as planned. A rarity with any multiple location, outdoor shoot' - RC Stills
With wit, humour, and insightful commentary about the human condition, Alana's songs have captured the attention of audiences far and wide, supported by community radio including Radio MAMA, Radio Adelaide, Bay FM, Triple Z, PBS FM, 4ZZZ, RTRFM, Joy FM, Southern FM, and more, with singles played across ABC National. After welcoming her son Rafferty into the world in 2021, his 16 week early arrival was followed by a 3-month stint in the NICU, a dramatic flood evacuation, and a year of home oxygen. As Rafferty became a source of writing inspiration for Alana, their story has inspired many across Australia.
Bask in Alana's ray of positivity, as she brings everything back to her most authentic self with 'Square One'.
