+ Announces debut album ESTA
Multi-instrumentalist and producer Ta'sia, the solo project of musician Annastasia Lucas, creates beats with vintage vinyl samples and live instruments arranged on an analog sampler with her main instrument, the tenor saxophone in her latest single. Dropping Thursday 9 May, 'Stick Around' is the second taste of her upcoming full length album ESTA, due for release on Thursday 20 June.
Created at her home on Wiradjuri Country in Naarm/Melbourne and in a recording session in Newcastle, 'Stick Around' was originally written for live performance, quickly becoming a fan favourite, and featuring Naarm based singer-songwriter Araminta. Throughout 'Stick Around', Amarinta's soulful vocals bring her message of holding onto relationships and the addictions that come with that. 'The lyrics and arrangement came from improv jamming during gigs and rehearsals just like a lot of the album', says Araminta. The single has always been a highlight of the Ta'sia live set, initially created on the MPC 2000xl, with guitar arranged by Ta'sia's brother Declan Lucas, and a groove that is sure to get you on your feet and dancing along.
A celebration of women in music, ESTA is made up of ten tracks featuring collaborations from vocalists, horn, woodwind, and rhythm section players, with tracks recorded in a single take, and others created through hours of fine tuning production, each one has a life of its own amongst the beats and samples. Working with so many featured vocalists, Ta'sia's creative direction follows their individual stories, from relationships with mothers, vocals in Spanish, the magic of the garden, her experience of her day job in nursing, and more.
Homegrown in Wagga Wagga NSW (Wiradjuri Country), Ta'sia's creativity takes on many different forms, working as a mentor for a large women's band in Newcastle (Massive Band Project), developing her self taught skills in recording and audio engineering at Ackeron Street Music Studio, and playing in her band, and others including Brazilian women's band 'Ile Ile', Western Arnhem land women's band 'Ripple Effect', and Senegalese Blues artist 'Issa Mane and the Blues In Force. Ta'sia has performed to audiences across Australia at Barunga Festival, Garma Festival, Subsonic, Lost Paradise, and Tanamon Valley Music Festival, with her music receiving support from community radio including RTR FM, 4ZZZ, 2SER, PBS FM, FBi, Syn, and more, and a recent release with Ena Malibu played across triple j and BBC Radio 6.
Join Ta’sia and experience her interpretations of sounds as emotions and states of life, through her connection to moments, feelings and memories!
