NEW EP: Danika 'Down Love'
DANIKA DOWN LOVE EP IS OUT NOW VIA ENDLESS RECORDINGS
Songsmith and story seamstress Danika has never been one to shy away from speaking hard truths with her voice and guitar; facing honesty head-on and Danika sees music as a wonderful way to document life in all its ups and downs and lessons learned.
Having joined the Endless Recordings and WAT families the last couple of years have been busy for Danika with the release of her When Love Comes EP back in 2021, her first east coast headline tour in 2022 and fast forward to 2023 Danika today releases her anticipated Down Love EP.
This selection of music known as the EP Down Love was specifically grouped together through the process of production, “I felt this selection of songs was an experimental mix of Folk and alternative production techniques. The songs were lovingly crafted in the studio alongside Melbourne Based Producer Nick Hererra using a range of recording techniques to create layers of texture and atmosphere and it was a very interesting, experimental and fun process,” Danika explains. Written over a 3 year period between 2016 and 2019, “it was one of the hardest times of my life I’d say. Music provided a place for me to flesh out the anger and frustrations I was feeling, and so these songs are honest journaling of experiences in my life from the moments they were written.”
Out Friday 10 March via Endless Recordings, this collection of five works builds on a mix of experimental folk and alternative and atmospheric production techniques bringing life to the pent up feelings and frustrations often kept behind closed doors. The EP comprises of singles ‘Coolshit Bullshit’ and ‘For My Baby’ and the most recent heartwrenching single ‘FYA’ all of which combined have seen Danika added to official Spotify playlists Indie Arrivals, Fresh Finds, Fresh Finds AU / NZ, Fresh Finds Folk, and Stay In Bed, continually earning her over 50,000 streams each month.
Whether creating tangible reminders of past patterns in ‘Better Weather’’ or her bittersweet first single ‘Coolshit Bullshit’, Down Love features the uniquely familiar sound we’ve grown to know and love from Danika. Her striking yet delicate vocals meander through the universal experience of letting go of learned behaviours in her second single ‘For My Baby’, title track ‘Down Love’ and the escapism and ecstasy of young love before closing with her raw and emotional moving message in ‘FYA’.
Before jetting off to Europe for shows, Danika will play a select few shows to celebrate the release of Down Love with appearances at The Warrandyte Festival, and Boogie Festival plus an EP Launch at The Evelyn Hotel on Friday 24 March with support from Hannah Mckittrick and Winten, with tickets on sale now.
