The Grogans return with a wild tale of missing drum kits, questionable country hospitality and one hell of a 'Country Mile', the second single of the year, arriving Thursday 1 October via Community Music, alongside a brand new music video directed and shot by Sam Brumby.

'Reasons' was the first warning shot; 'Country Mile' is the point where things get properly weird.
The story behind the track begins with a lost drum kit….

While road-tripping through rural NSW on their way to a Sydney show, The Grogans somehow dropped half a drum kit off the back of their trailer. Hunting down the lost gear led them straight to a pair of local oddballs who’d scooped the pieces off the roadside and weren't about to hand them back without getting something out of it.

“We somehow lost half a drum kit off the back of our trailer while driving through rural New South Wales on the way to Sydney,” the band shared. "The search for our missing gear led us to two very strange, deeply uncomfortable, and somewhat hostile men who had collected pieces of it from the side of the road. The encounter was so bizarre and unsettling that it inspired “Country Mile”.

What kicked off as an unfortunate tour mishap turned into pure Grogans gold: a classic tale of a simple road trip taking a few wild, unexpected turns.

Built around The Grogans' signature gritty guitar sounds, driving drums and a creeping sense of menace, 'Country Mile' turns a strange night in the bush into a full-throttle rock’n’roll yarn. It's part road movie, part fever dream; the video takes that same journey from the city into the country, starring the band's buddy Nath and capturing the band's knack for finding the absurd in the everyday.

Working with Director Sam Brumby, 'Country Mile' started as an idea from the band: "a journey from the city to the country, featuring album cover star Nath,” says Brumby. “Together we fleshed it out, weighed up what was actually possible in a single day of shooting, and scaled back the scope and locations accordingly.”

The result uses Snorricam, long zooms, last-minute ideas and a willingness to work off the cuff to create something that feels appropriately loose, strange and distinctly Australian. "The result is an accompaniment that bleeds a little Australiana while capturing the familiar crash and burn of a night well enjoyed.”

'Country Mile' follows 'Reasons', the first new music of 2026. 'Reasons' marked the first time the band had brought an outside producer into the studio, teaming up with acclaimed producer and mixer Steven Schram (Paul Kelly, Crowded House, TISM, Mildlife), with mastering by Joseph Carra.

The track has already clocked up some serious miles. In its first month, 'Reasons' racked up adds to Spotify playlists Local Noise, All New Rock and New Music Friday AU & NZ, as well as Apple Music's Good Times, Today's Rock, New In Rock and New Music Daily, as well as global radio spins across France, the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, the UK and Austria, Mexico, Romania and Switzerland and of course Australia.

Since forming in Melbourne in 2016, Quin Grunden, Angus Vasic and Jordan Lewis have carved out their own lane somewhere between surf rock, garage, blues and indie, releasing five studio albums, countless EPs and touring relentlessly across Australia and overseas.

Their 2025 album Stagger cracked the ARIA Top 10, while singles including the ARIA Gold-certified 'Money Will Chase You' and 'Lemon To My Lime' have become fan favourites. They've delivered a standout triple j

Like A Version
, earned a triple j Feature Album with Find Me A Cloud, and sold out headline tours across Australia, North America, the UK, Europe and New Zealand.

They've shared stages internationally with Ocean Alley and played festivals including Dauwpop Festival, London Calling, Bangkok Music City and Slackbarn Festival, alongside Australian appearances at Yours & Owls Festival, Wanderer Festival, St Kilda Festival, NYE on the Hill and the triple j 50th Anniversary Celebration.

Now, with 'Country Mile', The Grogans are heading back down the road.
Hopefully this time they can hold on to the drums.
