Balancing her trademark combination of slick indie sounds and vulnerability, Anna Smyrk dives into the New Year with the next taste of her debut album Spectacular Denial; her upcoming single ‘Skin Thinner’, out Friday 16 January via Community Music. Following her tour in late 2025 across Victorian Community Gardens, and the release of the first two singles ‘Garden-Variety Grief’ and ‘This Is a Drill’, the album celebrations are just getting started for 2026, as Anna announces pre-orders for the upcoming LP, slated for release on Friday 20 March, with album tour dates announced for Eora, Meanjin, and Naarm this coming April and May.

The album deals with denial in many Skin Thinner’ offers up a tender hope, delving into the painful yet inevitable parts of being a human. ‘I wrote this song about trying to peel away the layers that I put up to protect my mind after my dad passed away unexpectedly. It’s a resolution to try to work through the shock and denial and be open to the world again.’ - Anna Smyrk. The accompanying video takes us through the full emotional spectrum of the track. Set to a world of purple, the video plays with the idea of light and dark, by highlighting both the sadness and the humour in the song. ‘It was a fun video to make, very DIY. I was up until 4am the night before layering up beach balls and yoga balls, all these different sized balls, with black crepe paper. Using a chainsaw in my sister’s living room was not on my bingo card for this year, but here we are’ - says Anna on making the clip.

Produced by Anna Laverty (Courtney Barnett, Nick Cave), Spectacular Denial is a glittering collection of songs ranging from heartbreakingly vulnerable folk ballads to 90s grunge bangers, created in the wake of Anna unexpectedly losing her father. This first full length offering from Anna Smyrk showcases the sophisticated songwriter at the height of her prowess. ‘Denial and staying numb can be a useful part of the process, it can protect you when you’re not ready to feel your feelings. But at some point, if you want to feel all the good stuff as well, you need to find a way to stay open and hold the painful stuff and the joyful stuff at the same time.’ - Anna Smyrk

The past two years have seen Anna tour across North America, Europe and Australia, with official showcases at SXSWFolk Alliance International and NXNE. She has toured non-stop, sharing stages with the likes of Birds of Tokyo, Strands of Oak, Tim Rogers and Bachelor Girl, performing at some of Australia’s finest festivals, Woodford Folk Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival and more. Her 2023 EP Cortisol and Blue Light (recorded in Nashville with Jake Finch and Collin Pastore of boygenius/Lucy Dacus) received worldwide acclaim, charted on US college radio and earned playlisting on MTV.

Don’t miss the opportunity to experience Anna’s debut LP in its spectacular glory with Anna’s upcoming shows this Autumn.
