NEW SINGLE: Reb Fountain 'Nothing Like' + Upcoming Album How Love Bends
Unveiling the next chapter of Reb Fountain's exploration of love with new single ‘Nothing Like’
+ Upcoming album How Love Bends + Tour across Aotearoa
Unveiling the next chapter of her limitless exploration of love, Reb Fountain releases ‘Nothing Like’, the next single from her upcoming LP How Love Bends. Reb’s medium is that of a surrealist, playing with the stories that we tell ourselves and harnessing the sage wisdom of the dream as her audience gets lost within a landscape entirely of her making. Out Friday 31 January, ‘Nothing Like’ joins the album's other musical narratives in ‘Come Down’ and ‘Forever’; with the full release out Friday 7 March.
A love song, with an indelible pop hook, ‘Nothing Like' was written as an effortlessly hopeful stream of aphorisms that remind us we can choose how to face the dawn. In the midst of recording How Love Bends and in a new relationship, Reb took a dog walk up Mount Maungarei in Tāmaki Makaurau and discovered a feeling of hopefulness that inspired the writing of ‘Nothing Like’, as she perceived the world in a new light. The accompanying video was directed, filmed, and edited by Reb’s daughter Lola Fountain-Best, and shot on a Koda Super 8. In the retro style film, Reb is pictured adventuring the seaside with a horse Dark, together walking through the sand, hills, and water.
‘Our vision of the world is a reflection of our shadows; hungry ghosts searching for our likeness, we are clouded by the umbra that binds us. ‘Nothing Like’ brings a musical presence and lightness that underpins ‘How Love Bends’ … although the song arrived at the last minute it was always there; a force of human nature guiding me to make sense of it all.’ - Reb Fountain
Unfolding a dynamic dreamscape and the endless depths of Reb’s songwriting, How Love Bends is as vulnerable and heartbroken as it is unapologetic and commanding. Musing on the transformative power of love, each track leaves a mark on you imprinted with the fear, desire, hurt, and hope of both suffering and joy. Reb’s love is the stuff of chaos and oceans, vulnerability and revolution; stirring up the depths of the human condition and dancing with the richness of who we are.
"Love is an ever-evolving shapeshifter that lives in our marrow; magnetic and emergent, it is loosed by its archer to ride on the wind." - Reb Fountain
A consummate recording artist and performer, Reb Fountain has captivated audiences with her live performances, selling out shows across New Zealand in some of Aotearoa’s most iconic theatres, making her Australian live debut at Womadelaide, and has supported the likes of ‘Crowded House’ on their ‘To The Island’ NZ tour, Marlon Williams on his 2022 tour across UK and Europe, and will be supporting Paul Kelly across Aotearoa this September. Her music has seen her awarded the Taite Music Prize in 2021, Best Country Music Album in Aotearoa Music Awards, and an APRA Best Song Award, with her last LP Iris debuting at No. 1 on the NZ Charts, and recently being awarded ‘Best Original Score’ at the 2024 New Zealand Television Awards for ‘Escaping Utopia’ alongside Andrew Keoghan.
