NEW SINGLE: Velvet Bloom 'Miles Away' + Announces EP + Tour

Naarm/Melbourne based song seamstress Velvet Bloom is back, equipped with her silky vocals and candid creativity, with a new single ‘Miles Away’ dropping Wednesday 31 May. Out via C.W. Records, ‘Miles Away’ follows the release of their 2022 debut EP ‘Glimmer’ which saw them tour across Australia with sold-out shows in Sydney, WA and Victoria, and is the first taste from an acoustic EP 'Where Are You' out Friday 30 June. This July, Velvet Bloom will be joined by Hobart based musician and EP guest vocalist Jay Jarome for a tour across Victoria and Tasmania.

Making up the stripped back soundscape of this release, the daydream synth sounds and guitar riffs of Alex Markowitsch accompany the soul soaked sounds from lead vocalist and primary songwriter Maddy Herbert. Out Wednesday 31 May, ‘Miles Away’ touches on the hardship of navigating long distance relationships; the unspoken wistful words revealed through Herbert’s lyrics and a space that exists effortlessly amongst the gentle instrumentation. “I wrote ‘Miles Away’ in 2022 when I was in the midst of a very busy tour schedule. It is about navigating a relationship from a distance and being somewhat unable to express feelings in the way that you would like because of that proximity. ‘Miles Away’ is about being present in that separation and loving the other person from afar. ” - says Maddy Herbert.

Mastered by Joe Carra of Crystal Mastering, Velvet Bloom’s upcoming EP ‘Where Are You’ is a collection of dreamy songwriting amidst rhythms and resolutions that span across the trio of featured tracks. Always profound and reflective, the lyrics meander through themes of love, loss, grief, and more. As ‘Miles Away’ opens the EP with its message of longing and yearning for closeness, ‘Goodbye’ is a letter in song form for Maddy Herbert’s father, holding space for her farewell and closure from his passing, and closing title track ‘Where Are You’ features Tasmanian songwriter Jay Jarome for a heartfelt duet. “I wrote ‘Where You Are’ about wanting to spend more time with my person. When I was writing the lyrics, it was as if my partner and I had opposite schedules and were only seeing each other when we were working on creative projects together. Jay came over in 2022 to play some shows and I showed him the song. He started humming the melody and it was clear to me that this track needed to be a duet. Writing with Jay is so effortless and I connect with him on such a deep level… So, I feel privileged to have had him work on this song with me.” - Maddy Herbert’

With an ability to warm an entire room no matter where you are standing, a ray of sunshine that bursts from the vocals of Velvet Bloom’s Maddy Herbert, it is no wonder that they have captured audiences across Australia, with a 2022 tour through VIC, NSW, QLD, ACT and TAS, with sold out shows at Lazy Bones (NSW) and The Night Cat (VIC), appearances on ABC’s Spicks and Specks, The National Gallery of Victoria, Loch Hart Music Festival and Tanglewood, and a national tour with WA indie-rockers Great Gable. Now Velvet Bloom embarks on a Victorian and Tasmanian tour alongside Jay Jerome, with dates in the Grampians, Mornington Peninsula, Hobart, Melbourne, and more.

‘Miles Away’ Lyrics
Lookin’ back on memories as I recall them;
I see the stitches in our fabric like a perfect little hem,
And though they Frey and rip; they take patience to mend,
I will always have the space to see this though ‘till the end…

But it’s too heavy to hold onto while you’re miles away
And it’s too, too much to ask of you while you’re miles away

The press of your lips against my skin it lingers,
Your hands the ideal shape to fit all of my fingers,
So, when the wind shifts and I feel it in my core,
I will shed those leaves to find that it is you who I adore…

But it’s too heavy to hold onto while you’re miles away
And it’s too, too much to ask of you while you’re miles away

And it’s too heavy to hold onto while you’re miles away (while you’re away)
And it’s too, too much to ask of you while you’re miles away

While you’re away… I’m going to wait…
And it’s too heavy to hold onto while you’re away.
