The wait is finally over for Melbourne’s genre bending trio The Grogans' third studio album WHICH WAY IS OUT, out Friday 28 October via Cousin Will Records. An album encompassing the trio’s legacy of lucrative, finger-on-the-pulse songwriting, combining their love of a past aesthetic with a modern day twist. After a busy year with two national tours, and their first run of international shows in New Zealand, The Grogans are finishing off their ‘No Thanks (I’m Going To See The Grogans)’ tour with a sold out release day show plus extra shows added at HABA in Rye, and an album exhibition at Record Paradise on Sunday 6 November.

WHICH WAY IS OUT was based around a similar workflow we have taken on previous releases. The idea of going away to write/record has been the best way for us to completely be involved in the project. I think it allows us to step back from the other responsibilities in our life for just a minute and set our minds on one thing at a time - Quin Grunden, The Grogans

Out on indie record shelves now, WHICH WAY IS OUT seamlessly blends the genre borderlines between heavy, cruisy, and acoustic tracks to create a fresh twist on the classic Grogans sound. The work is bookended by themes of friendship, beginning with the trio’s anthem ‘Bugs’ - If I'm alright, I got you by my side, now I’m alright and coming full circle for ‘Lucky Enough’, a track simply about the love of the band and their beautiful community. Meandering through the material, The Grogans explore the depths of their expanding genres, with singles ‘Inside My Mind’ and punk wrapped love song ‘Be Your Man’, alongside reverb drenched ‘Blurred Vision’, and singles ‘Just A Kid’ and ‘No Thanks (I’m Going Surfing) going back to their surf-rock roots. Gritty ballad ‘Le Fangz’ delves into the story of an imaginary creature, while ‘Who Knows’ touches on the existential overwhelm and intensity of the world we find ourselves in, and one take track ‘Take It Or Leave It’ sees the boys taking life day by day.

“We have said it before but I think it’s something we will have to say as long as we are putting out records, that being our desire to keep trying to force ourselves out of a specific ‘ one genre band’ and explore new ideas within the sound that we have developed so far.” - Quin Grunden, The Grogans

The album has deliveredsuccessful singles ‘Just A Kid’, ‘Be Your Man’, ‘No Thanks (I’m Going Surfing)’, and ‘Inside My Mind’, collectively added to Spotify’s New Music Friday AU & NZ, Fresh Finds AU & NZ, Rock Out, and Local Noise playlists, plus music video adds on Rage and MTV. This latest release, WHICH WAY IS OUT, deploys an extensive variety of stylistic influences with cohesion and conviction, from Angus’ punctuated guitar riffs and and Jordan’s propelling rhythms, with Quin’s viscous vocals, as the tracks range from reverb drenched chants to honeyed croons.

Sunday 6 November The Grogans will host a WHICH WAY IS OUT exhibition at Melbourne’s Record Paradise presented by Cousin Will Records. Come and immerse yourself in all things Grogans from 11am - 5pm, with prints from NEWKINGJARDINE, vinyl, exclusive merch, and free beer, set to the sounds of their albums, old and new.
