NEW EP: ELAURA CRY UNTIL WE LAUGH + INTIMATE NAARM LAUNCH SHOW
Emerging Naarm/Melbourne R&B-soul artist ELAURA steps boldly into a new era with her debut EP, Cry Until We Laugh, an emotionally rich, bilingual body of work that explores heartbreak, healing, self-worth, spirituality, rage, joy, and the transformative power of community.
Out Thursday 21 May, Cry Until We Laugh is both deeply personal and universally resonant, a project that moves through spoken word poetry, R&B-soaked grooves, lush harmonies, electronic production, and intimate storytelling woven in both English and Spanish. To celebrate the release, ELAURA will bring the EP to life with an intimate launch show at Shotkickers on Thursday 11 June. Backed by a dynamic 7-piece band, the performance promises a fully immersive live experience moving seamlessly from raw vulnerability to cathartic empowerment.
Across five tracks, ELAURA unpacks the aftermath of toxic love and the reclaiming of voice and identity. Expect soulful vocals, spoken word passages, live instrumentation layered with moments of humour and release, and a performance designed to make people feel deeply while dancing through the ache.
Written in collaboration with a creative community across Naarm, the EP reflects ELAURA’s belief that healing is never done alone. EP opener 'cut my hair' is a raw reflection on inherited relationship patterns, and the painful process of letting go of a love that once felt all-consuming to rediscover myself beyond it. 'we both know' was written as an outlet for suppressed anger and heartbreak. This song captures the frustration of never receiving accountability or a genuine apology from someone who caused deep pain.
The second single from the EP 'LDDWYD' (Love Don’t Do What You Did) is a deeply vulnerable song that unpacks heartbreak, questions the meaning of love, and surrenders to the idea that life may have a plan that we can’t yet make sense of. The EP's first single, 'That Ain't It', was born from betrayal and heartbreak; it's a song about reclaiming power, a journey of speaking unspoken truths, turning pain into strength, and finding the resolve to walk away from what no longer serves you.
The closing track 'find your feet' embodies the heart of the EP, surrendering to joy, trusting others to hold you through pain, and discovering strength in togetherness. A hopeful and euphoric reflection on community, resilience, and purpose, this song is about rebuilding yourself through love, connection, and trusting the people who help you start again: “Tus días pueden ser, más lluvia que sol, pero mano en mano, lo haremos juntos.” Translated as: “Some days are gonna be cloudier than most, but I’ll help you find your feet, and we’ll start again.”
Born in Australia with Chilean heritage, ELAURA grew up in the forested valleys of the Dandenong Ranges. This landscape continues to shape the emotional depth and natural spirituality of her music. Her artist name itself is a tribute to the women who came before her, blending the names Emily and Laura, her grandmother and great aunt.
Already recognised for her captivating live presence, ELAURA has performed alongside the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl and across iconic Melbourne venues including Howler, Northcote Social Club and the National Gallery of Victoria.
Cry Until We Laugh sees ELAURA deliver her most vulnerable and expansive work to date.
