Neeko returns with powerful new single 'FLOWERS TO MY DOOR // SWORD OF SACRIFICE'
Naarm/Melbourne-born singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Neeko unveils her new single 'FLOWERS TO MY DOOR // SWORD OF SACRIFICE', out Wednesday 26 November via RouteNote.
Blending cinematic trip-hop textures with raw emotional storytelling, this song marks a bold step forward for Neeko as both a writer and producer.
Recorded between her self-built studio in rural Australia and Sing Sing Studios in Melbourne and co-produced with Callum Edwards, this next chapter showcases Neeko’s evolution as a producer. With sonic nods to Portishead, Massive Attack, Four Tet and Lana Del Rey, Neeko weaves together a deeply personal narrative of heartbreak, rage and surrender. The track explores the aftermath of a relationship rupture, a moment of reckoning between love, loss and reclamation.
“This was one of those songs that kind of wrote itself,” says Neeko. “I was experiencing such an intensity of emotions, and they needed to go somewhere. Songwriting is a healing modality for me; it allows me to transform pain into something beautiful. I took risks with this one, and I think they paid off.”
The track opens with Neeko’s intimate vocals and a sparse electric guitar, before plunging into a pulsing beat and a moody synthscape. The song’s unexpected drum and bass breakdown pays homage to Björk’s 'Crystalline', fusing Neeko’s folk roots with an experimental electronic edge.
Originally inspired by a Ry X reference track, the song evolved entirely during the production process. “You think you know what the song is,” Neeko explains, “and then it takes you somewhere else. You have to surrender, otherwise you’re in trouble.”
Known for her raw, soulful vocal delivery and fearless musical exploration, Neeko continues to carve her own path through the alternative folk and electronic landscape. Neeko's work merges folk storytelling with lo-fi grooves, vintage synths, and emotive guitar work.
Neeko’s creative journey spans over a decade of collaboration and reinvention. From founding the all-female collective BLUME (Boss Ladies Under Musical Elevation), which became a mainstay at Melbourne’s Toff in Town, including some of Australia's finest musicians, Danika, Charlie Needs Braces, Harmony Byrne, Rat Child and Elle Shimada, to drumming with the psych-rock outfit TomGirl, Neeko has consistently championed women in music and improvisational performance.
Following a period of artistic retreat in the Australian bush and an extended creative sojourn through Bali, Central and South America, Neeko returned to Australia with an album’s worth of new material. Her forthcoming sophomore record, FLOWER TONE SLAYER (due February 2026), expands on her folk-soul sensibilities while embracing the textured trip-hop and downtempo electronica of the 90s.
