MUSIC NEWS: Sonic Dialog launches with Community Radio Stations

Sonic Dialog radio show launches with KCRW, DJ Raul Campos in partnership with Australian Community Radio stations Edge Radio, FBi and more!

Introducing Sonic Dialog, a fresh new collaboration between LA’s DJ Raul Campos, best known from 89.9 KCRW, with Australian community radio hosts and artists showcasing endlessly diverse music from Australia and the US. In each episode, the show will explore connections between US and Australian artists, with the mission to entertain, inform, and get a glimpse at the tapestry of music and music creation via our friends across the Pacific.

“Australia has such a strong relationship with the United States, and music is no exception. I’m thrilled to dig into how that relationship is evolving today, the influences, the differences and most importantly, the friendship." – Raul Campos

Produced by the Australian Music Alliance and Pitchikker's Australian expat and LA-based Adam Burke, Sonic Dialog will be hitting the airwaves on Wednesday 16 October with Hobart's Edge Radio 99.3FM's Music Director Aeron Clark and Tasmanian rapper and activist Grace Chia alongside Raul Campos to take audiences through their current favourite and emerging artists from the US.

Campos produced and hosted  Los Angeles KCRW’s Global Beat radio series, which featured emerging artists and tracks worldwide. The series launched with Global Beat: Australia via a partnership with the Australian Music Radio Airplay Project (of the CBAA). It ran for 32 episodes through 2021 and into 2022, introducing Americans to over 100 artists from many regions, styles and genres with the show amassing 3.8 million listens.

Sonic Dialog will air 20 episodes across Hobart's Edge Radio 99.3FM, Sydney's FBi, The Kimberleys' Radio Goolarri and more with episodes featuring Grace Chia, Jack McEwan of Psychedelic Porn CrumpetsLucinda Shannon of Slag QueensGodrich and Andrew from A. Swayze & the Ghosts. The program will launch with an episode featuring multidisciplinary artist Grace Chia, who uses her roots in spoken word poetry to influence her hard hitting bars with a twist of soulful RnB melodies back with old school boom-bap beats. She performs regularly at local hip-hop, queer allied, and female-led gigs around Hobart’s live music venues. She has supported a range of national and international hip-hop and electronic artists including Drapht, Allday, Manaz III, K+Lab, Grouch in Dub, and poets Alok Vaid-Menon (US), Luka Lesson, and Harry Baker (UK).

I’m super excited for the Sonic Dialogue episode to go live! It was a great experience talking to Raul about artists I’ve loved for a long time across the world.’ - Grace Chia

Raul Campos
