Tanaya Harper releases an ode to your inner voice with the new ‘Cleo’
+ Announces her long awaited debut album They Have Become Me
Get ready to pick up the pieces to put yourself back together, Boorloo based indie rock angel Tanaya Harper is back with her single ‘Cleo’, an ode to your inner voice that you ignore for too long. Out Thursday 8 August, ‘Cleo’ follows on from her most recent single ‘Night Terrors’ which set the tone for her new era of music, and the release of her long awaited debut album They Have Become Me. Set for release Friday 18 October via MGM, They Have Become Me explores the sonic possibilities of alt-folk-pop, whilst remaining integral to Tanaya’s innate style and lyrical content of emotional growth and deepened self-awareness through interpersonal struggles.
Inspired by an unexpected and inspiring week away from home, ‘Cleo’ was born from Tanaya’s discoveries around relationships and attachment styles. “It’s the post-breakup song. That person is still there in your everyday thoughts, whether you like it or not, and you know there will come a day when they won’t exist in your present moments anymore, but that time hasn’t come quite yet”, divulges Tanaya Harper.
Produced and mixed by local engineer Andrew Lawson from Debaser (The Buoys, Riley Pearce, Death by Denim) and mastered by Ruairi O’Flaherty at Nomograph Mastering (Lana Del Rey, Paramore, Middle Kids, St Vincent) in LA, the message of the track is encompassed by the upbeat positive rhythm section and lyrical outlook.
"Cleo is a song that explores moments of growth and insight following a relationship’s end. Those moments when you can humbly acknowledge your equal participation in an unhealthy relationship, whilst also offering yourself kindness and the opportunity to sit with and learn from the experience, rather than choosing the route of righteousness and ignorance. The song is named after a cat called ‘Cleo’ who lived at the songwriting retreat where the song was written. She was sleeping next to me when I wrote Cleo, so it felt very fitting to immortalise that moment." - Tanaya Harper
