Be captivated by Felicity Cripps Band's dreamy melancholic new single ‘Werewolf’
+ Announces upcoming album CHASING VOLCANOES out Thursday 22 August
Castlemaine based musician Felicity Cripps shares her next musical instalment; her tale of magical interludes, and an ode to the long lost loves and ones that could have been with the new song ‘Werewolf’. Out Thursday 30 May, ‘Werewolf’ joins the band's recent single ‘Inside A Keyhole’, giving listeners another taste of her thoughtful and masterful songwriting from the upcoming LP CHASING VOLCANOES due for release Thursday 22 August 2024.
‘Werewolf’ is a melancholically driven pop song that gently sinks into your psyche with dreamy layers and backing vocals that evoke the lingering scent of jasmine blossoms on a Summer's Night. Recorded and produced by Nick Huggins (Dirty Three, Jess Rebeiro, Jen Cloher) and featuring the dulcet tones of Bones Sloane (Courtney Barnett) on BV’s, Felicity’s storytelling takes you on a journey, reminiscing on past unattainable lovers, and the gradual dissipation of youthful innocence. Drawing on inspiration from her own experience, what she describes as her ‘Werewolf in Paris’, she touches on the dangerous euphoria in the moments that could have been, from dancing on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur to riding under the Parisian sky on a motorbike.
There's a sweetness that feels lost, but also a sense of elation in letting go and moving on." - Felicity Cripps
Following a small hurricane of musical incantations (HOY, Slow Galo, Houlette) and collaborations across Felicity’s former home base in Naarm, Melbourne, FCB (Felicity Cripps Band) evolved when song-writer and lead vocalist made the move out to Castlemaine on Dja Dja Wurrung country. As both a band and a duo Felicity has shared stages with Models, Robert Forster, Rob Snarski, Lindy Morrison, and more, appearing at the Townfolk Festival and Whole Loddon Love, and joining acclaimed songwriter Don Walker earlier in the year. Her story of collective conscience in ‘Inside A Keyhole’ captured audiences across Australia, receiving support across community radio including 2SER, 4ZZZ, Triple R, 3MDR, and more.
Between running and owning a local arts institution and venue Theatre Royal Castlemaine with her husband, and raising her daughter, Felicity is excited to be unveiling the next chapter of her new music. Werewolf holds a universal appeal – Felicity whisks audiences away with captivating montages of youthful interludes of lust and love, nostalgic for some and achingly real for those entering their formative years.
