NEW SINGLE: Charlie Needs Braces 'Dyarrubin' + Day On The Green Announcement
Charlie Needs Braces releases new single ‘Dyarrubin’, a call for taking care of Country
+ Teskey Brothers support; A Day On The Green
Celebrating the Country's beautiful waterways and surrounding bushlands, Naarm-based musician Charlie Needs Braces is back with her looping prowess and lush vocal layers in her new single ‘Dyarrubin’. Her first release following her debut album Saltwater People, which saw Charlie awarded the ‘Archie Roach Award for Emerging Talent’ at the 2023 Music Victoria Awards and touring interstate and regionally, ‘Dyarrubin’ is the first look at a new chapter for the project, out Thursday 15 August. With her sister Miri, Charlie Needs Braces has announced they will support The Teskey Brothers in January of 2025 for A Day On The Green, with shows across Australia.
Named after the Dyarrubin River, the traditional name for the Hawkesbury River that runs from the NSW Central Coast to Northern Sydney, ‘Dyarrubin’ was inspired by the surrounding vivacious wildlife. ‘We watched the sunset reflecting in the water as the dusk fell and the mullet fish jumped in and out splashing their silver tales on the surface. We heard the bellbirds singing and making their loud echolocation popping, calling to each other through the bush’ says Charlie. Amongst ethereal layered vocals created with her sister Miri, the many different brass tones of Charlie’s leading instrument trumpet create loops and solos around their message to celebrate and take care of our Country.
‘We need to continue to protect and take care of our Country, maintaining the lands and waters just as our ancestors have done for so long before us. Celebrate our Country and Culture with us.’ - Charlie Needs Braces
