NEW SINGLE: Velvet Bloom 'Best In You' + Album Announcement

Velvet Bloom releases uplifting new single ‘Best In You’
+ Single launch show at Shotkickers in November
+ Announces self-titled debut album for March 2025

Four piece soul pop outfit Velvet Bloom is back with a new single ‘Best In You’ and their self-titled debut album's announcement on Friday 28 March 2025. With each release, Velvet Bloom takes a step into a part of their otherworldly odyssey of new music, with ‘Best In You’ taking on uplifting classic soul with a modern flair, out alongside a video on Thursday 14 November. To celebrate this release, the band will be at Shotkickers on Thursday 21 November for a headline show supported by Wild Gloriosa.

Written as a track to uplift her spirits, ‘Best In You’ explores seeing the best in your loved ones even in their worst moments; a pearl within an oyster or a diamond in the rough. "When you know people well enough (yourself included) you are exposed to their best and worst qualities. 'Best In You’ is about showing compassion to the ones you love when they mess up forgivingly," says Velvet Bloom. As Maddy Herbert steps into the producer role for the new project and is joined by collaborator and band member Alex Marko on engineering and mixing duties, a highlight of the single is the horn arrangements from composer and saxophonist  Brennan Hamilton-Smith, accentuated by stacked vocal arrangements.

This is the first Velvet Bloom track to incorporate horns - we were lucky enough to have Brennan Hamilton-Smith (Composition & Saxophones) and Ben Harrison (Trumpet) on board to perform these compositions. I loved stacking the vocal harmonies around the horns with Jay and Alex because we had to be a lot more strategic about placement than we usually are.’ - Velvet Bloom

The accompanying video created by Velvet Bloom and filmmaking and visual artist Rhys Newling, captures all the lighthearted elements of the single, filmed at St Kilda’s iconic Luna Park. ‘We wanted to do something fun as a group and invite our audience to this experience by filming on our handy-cam. All of us had nostalgic memories of enjoying this theme park with loved ones when we were young, so shooting the ‘Best In You’ film clip there felt like a good way to capture the song's essence.’ - Maddy Herbert

Velvet Bloom's music transcends genres; a sonic voyage through the cosmos with Maddy Herbert’s soulful prowess and lyricism serving as a beacon of authenticity, with each band member and musician adding their own flair to the group's project and kaleidoscopic soundscape. The first singles ‘My Love’, ‘Silver Tongue’, and ‘Best In You’ are an exciting look at the new music on the horizon for 2025.

‘We have dedicated the past three years of our lives to the creation and release of our debut album. We have really refined our sound throughout the making of this body of work, pushing ourselves and each other to achieve something that we are all incredibly proud of. This album draws inspiration from soul classics and modern alternative-pop, while blending genres like folk, funk, neo-soul and indie-rock into the mix. I couldn't be more grateful for the band, community and other artists and collaborators who have contributed countless hours to each aspect of this project.’ - Velvet Bloom

Velvet Bloom’s debut EP Glimmer served as a catalyst for their rise, released through independent label Cousin Will Records (The Grogans), and saw them tour nationally across Australia, and taking the stage at esteemed venues including Lazy Bones, The Night Cat, The NGV, Loch Hart Music Festival, MONA and many more. Their music continues making waves, with tracks added to Spotify Editorial playlists including The Local List, Soulful Day, and Fresh Finds, and appearing on ABC’s Spicks and Specks, their unique blend of soul, pop, jazz, and indie-rock capturing hearts across community radio Triple R, PBS FM, 4ZZZ, Edge Radio, 2SER, RTR FM, alongside Triple J, ABC, and more.
