NEW SINGLE: Natasha Kate 'Chore'
Introducing Natasha Kate, one of Australia's most exciting new songwriters and performers of 2024!
After capturing the attention of triple j staff by uploading her debut single 'Treading Water' to triple j unearthed, Mornington Peninsula based sixteen-year-old Natasha Kate is set to release her second single 'Chore', an empowering track full of classic teenage Angst on Saturday 23 November.
Writing songs since early childhood, Natasha Kate's lyricism drives her passion for her music. Inspired by the likes of Missy Higgins, Noah Kahan, Lizzy McAlpine & Phoebe Bridgers, she has a distinct sound of her own and has already been compared to some of Australia's best songwriters; “Honestly what a way to come out the gates, the way that she captures emotion, the maturity in that single, is just unmatched... I think we’ve found a new Angie McMahon,” stated Ash McGregor, from triple j's Home & Hosed.
With the help of local producer Spud Thompson at Elusive Creative in Dromana, Natasha Kate combines acoustic sounds and instruments with glitchy effects and haunting layered vocals, putting a modern and almost experimental take on folk music. 'Chore' reveals another side of Natasha's sounds and songwriting with jangly guitars that build and retreat with edging crescendos imploding into each chorus capturing all of the joy and drama of approaching the cusp of adulthood.
"'Chore' is about knowing your worth and not giving a second chance to someone who didn't know what they had until it was gone." - Natasha Kate
For the past two years, she has worked alongside industry professionals, making annual self-funded trips to Queensland to meet with LA-based songwriters Pam Shayne and Richard Harris. In 2024 alone, Natasha Kate won the Peninsula Shire's Green Wedge songwriting competition, reached new audiences on national radio, and played over 20 shows, all while being completely independent and still in school!
'Chore' is certain to catapult Natasha Kate from a promising artist-to-watch to one of the most exciting new songwriters and performers of 2024.
