November offered us the latest from rising rapper and HipHop icon Strictly D.T with ‘Drift Away’ that featured the angelic vocals of Cle Morgan, now December brings the visual component to this intoxicating love story. The video is an AI generated expression of D.T’s curated chronicle, produced by UK sound designer Corbenlamb. Continuing to build on the busy year Strictly D.T has had after empowering and affirming single ‘My Life’, plus ‘Blood Type Real’ and ‘Where You From’, and now ‘Drift Away’, this is the latest but not the last we will hear from him after announcing his debut album Decial Like Special slated for release on Friday 17 February 2023.

Combine the painting style of Picasso and the genius of AI generated artwork and you get Strictly D.T’s video accompaniment of ‘Drift Away’; an unpredictable and moving immersion of the narrative. Working with experienced UK sound designer, music producer, composer, and arranger Corbenlamb via Fiverr, who has spent the last year working on Zuzu's latest critically acclaimed album 'Queensway Tunnel', the match emerged from the social media scrolling we are all familiar with and together flourished D.T’s curiosity of how AI would interpret his imaginative lyrics. “I knew that Drift Away being a storytelling song would need some visuals to help paint the picture. As I see more and more AI generated photos being made by people typing in keywords, I thought how cool would it be if I got AI to interpret the song?!” - Strictly D.T

‘Drift Away’ encapsulates the experience of blind love through a story of passion, pain, and betrayal, that Strictly D.T describes as ‘Bonnie and Clyde style, but Clyde didn’t know they were robbing a bank and only went through with it for his love for Bonnie.’ Delve into the depths of the tale through the soul drenched vocals of feature artist Cle Morgan, D.T’s piercing lyrics, production from one of New Zealand’s most prolific DJ and beatmakers Spell, and mix and mastering by MattyMadeit. As the fourth single lifted from ‘Decial Like Special’, ‘Drift Away’ develops the expansive topics featured on Strictly D.T’s debut album tackling mental health, relationships, family politics and much more.

Since moving to Australia Strictly D.T has supported the likes of Mos Def, Common, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, and has hosted his own B-Boy shows and spoken word nights as well as making an appearance on triple j’s Bars of Steel alongside some of the best established and emerging rappers around Australia. Now with his feet firmly planted in Melbourne, D.T is one of the feature MCs of HALO Vocal Ensemble, a 10-25 choir of Melbourne’s finest singers. The ensemble puts a modern spin on the definition of a choir, bringing a new sound to the masses. HALO’s transcendental performances see the city’s favourite voices gather in one space to perform collaboratively and collectively.
