Amarina Waters releases debut album End of the World Fantasy with the focus single 'So Long Marianne Faithful'
Seldom does a song feel so much like a season that you can almost feel the hot wind or icy stillness on your skin while you listen. On her debut album End of the World Fantasy, Dja Dja Wurrung/Castlemaine-based songwriter Amarina Waters unveils nine breathtaking alt-folk songs that shimmer with longing, wit and clarity, including the focus single, 'So Long Marianne Faithful' on Friday 14 November, 2025.
Recorded in Aotearoa/New Zealand with award-winning producer Ben Edwards (Marlon Williams, Aldous Harding, Julia Jacklin), End of the World Fantasy captures Waters’ trademark ability to turn the ordinary into the transcendent. Each song feels like a postcard from the edge of love, mortality and nature’s infinite patience, each line a reminder of the fragile, luminous connections that bind us.
With effortless poetry couched in everyday language — “give me your gold tooth, babe, that’s where you shine” — Waters lays bare the human heart, weaving a story that feels both intimate and universal. The result is an album that lingers long after the final note fades, part memoir and part collective reflection on humanity’s romance with the world around it. These nine songs are the kind that make you genuinely glad that Amarina wrote them.
“Amarina's songwriting stands apart. It's resonant and reaches into you, locating the sore spots with precision.” - Dave Ruby Howe, Triple J
“Timeless and nostalgic and simply gorgeous in every way.” - The Night Sky Is a Jewellery Store Window
An active and much-loved member of Naarm/Melbourne’s indie music community, Waters has already earned the admiration of audiences and broadcasters alike, with spins on 3RRR, PBS FM, and Triple J, well before releasing a full-length record. Her live performances, including sold-out headline shows and festival appearances at Brunswick Music Festival, End Of The Line, and Darebin Music Feast, have seen her share lineups with Angie McMahon, Gretta Ray, Ruby Gill, Missy Higgins, Vera Blue, Ngaiire and Tiny Ruins.
For those discovering her for the first time, Waters’ music carries something of Jen Cloher’s grounded power, Laura Marling’s emotional generosity, and Joni Mitchell’s grace, but above all, it carries the unmistakable voice of Amarina herself: wry, wise, and luminous.
“I tried to arrive, but I found that the end’s always moving,” she sings on End of the World Fantasy, a line that sums up the restless beauty of her art.
As ABC once put it, Amarina is “grateful to have music in her life.” With this record, music will be grateful to have Amarina.
