NEW SINGLE: Wave Raiders 'My Way' + Sunshine Coast Launch Show
MEET YOUR NEW FAVOURITE NEO-SURF ROCKERS, WAVE RAIDERS!
New single 'My Way' out Thursday 24 July + All Ages Launch party at Solbar
Introducing Wave Raiders, a trio of alternative rock disruptors from the Sunshine Coast. They aren’t here to blend in - they’re here to smash cliches and carve out their own identity as they produce their style of Neo-Surf Rock Psychedelia, taking from the last 25 years of Australian rock music.
Dropping their new single 'My Way' on Thursday 24 July via ONErpm, Wave Raiders will be celebrating by throwing an ALL AGES launch party at Sunshine Coast’s Solbar on Sunday 17 August with punk rock legends, Chamberlane, and up-and-coming grunge rockers, Karma Police, joining them for one rocking show, guaranteed to raise the roof off the Solbar.
Influenced by some of Australia's rock royalty, including The Chats, Silverchair, and The Screaming Jets, 'My Way' was written by all three members of the band - Peter De Waard, Thomas De Waard, Jayden Georg, and produced by internationally renowned UK producer Steve James (The Angels, Cold Chisel, Skunkhour, The Screaming Jets). The track was recorded at Red Engine Studios, Brisbane, and mastered by Leon Zervos at Studios 301. 'My Way' is a song about not following the pack and carving out our own identity. "A lot of rules and artificial barriers have been put in front of us in the music industry due to our ages, but we’re not going to let them stop us. We just want to make good music and get out there and play live," said Pete De Waard (lead guitar and vocals).
"We want our song to help people feel like they can be themselves and to ignore anyone who tries to get in the way of them achieving their aspirations." - Wave Raiders
With a few singles already under their belt, including their debut single ‘Fun’, ‘A Punk Rock Christmas’ (a collaboration with Sarah McLeod from The Superjesus, December 2024), and ‘Don’t Wanna Be Late’, the band may already be one of Australia's hardest working bands. Between school and surfing, the trio can be found meticulously honing their skills to create a show that is equal parts instrumentally tight and entertaining.
"We want people to come to our shows and to see it as an experience. We want people to be excited by what we’re going to do next. We want to create a community where everyone can freely express themselves and have a good time with their mates." - Wave Raiders
As Australia’s newest generation of stage shredders, it hasn't taken long for the band to graduate from their first show at the local RSL to huge shows and stages across the country, from Bluesfest Byron Bay to Airlie Beach Festival of Music. The three-piece have been called up to perform for over 10,000 fans alongside legends Spiderbait and have shared stages with the likes of Pricey, The Choir Boys, The Beautiful Girls, James Reyne, Dragon and Kingswood. They have also snagged coveted support slots with The Screaming Jets on the QLD leg of 'The Life Blood' and Rock N' Roll on Summer' Tours, and were handpicked by The Superjesus as the main support on their recent 'The Album' tour.
"At 10-12 years old, we formed Wave Raiders, and one of our goals was to play at the Caloundra Music Festival in our hometown. We devised a plan for the final night of the festival. We smuggled a sign into the venue and waited for hours at the front of the mosh pit for Spiderbait to perform, and held up a sign asking them if we could play 'Calypso' with them.
We had practiced 'Calypso' about ten times that day, and when Spiderbait called us up, from the side stage, Janet checked with us that we could actually play ‘Calypso’, and we reassured her that we could. We jumped up on the main stage and, much to the shock of the 10,000 fans, we nailed it!" - Wave Raiders
With their debut single 'Fun' selling out its launch show, "The Raiders" quickly earned nominations for 'Rising Star' and 'Young Artist of the Year' at local music awards, propelling them to start creating their debut EP, with production overseen by Cameron McGlinchey of The Screaming Jets and Rogue Traders, and the internationally acclaimed, ARIA-winning, and Grammy-nominated Steve James.
Wave Raiders are channeling a groundswell of local support towards a full-blown siege on the Australian music scene. Unpredictable. Loud. Impossible to ignore. They aren't just riding the wave; they are the wave.
