MUSIC NEWS: Emily Lubitz ARIA and AIR Charts for Two Black Horses
EMILY LUBITZ TOPS ARIA & AIR CHARTS WITH DEBUT SOLO ALBUM TWO BLACK HORSES
Album Tour Sells Out + More Shows Added!
It’s been a monumental week for beloved independent Australian singer songwriter Emily Lubitz, who has unveiled her debut solo album Two Black Horses to widespread acclaim, with the record galloping straight to the top of both the ARIA and AIR charts:
#1 - ARIA Top 20 Australian Country Albums
#1 - AIR 100% Independent Albums
#1 - AIR Independent Label Albums
#3 - ARIA Top 20 Australian Albums
#7 - ARIA Top 40 Country Albums
A mother of three, self-managed, and 100% independent, Emily released Two Black Horses on her own terms, booking and promoting and selling out multiple shows on the album tour herself. What began with packed rooms at Brunswick Ballroom, Melbourne, Shedshaker Taproom, Castlemaine, and Railway Club Darwin, and upcoming shows in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Murwillumbah, and Brunswick Heads are now completely sold out, with second shows added due to high demand.
"I guess this is what you call a whirlwind! This week has been much more than what we dreamed of when we started this record in its humble beginnings. The tour is selling out, too. I guess it takes a couple of decades to become an overnight success." - Emily Lubitz
Produced by her husband and long-time collaborator Harry James Angus, the nine-track LP conjures cinematic Americana, country textures, and lush storytelling. "It sounds like an old Hollywood movie, starring Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline and Phoebe Bridgers, who go on holidays together and talk about their feelings," says Harry James Angus.
The record opens with 'Two Black Horses Tumbling Out Of The Snow', a haunting track inspired by a Swiss folk song sung by Emily’s mother and uncles, echoing themes of heritage, heartache, and hope. From the tongue-in-cheek swagger of lead single 'Big Time', to the tender focus track 'Stay Tender-Hearted', a wish for her children to stay soft in a hard world, Lubitz lays bare her soul in each song.
Impressions of unconditional love shine through on 'Everything Good Is Somewhere Else' and the power of being loved through all shades of happiness, with all sides to holidays and homes playing out in 'Kardashian Winter' and 'My Summer Holiday'. Continuing her themes of family, and crowd favourite live 'My Rita' follows her parents' story of forbidden love, with a gentle optimistic reminder in 'Don't Worry You Got Time' that we're as young as we'll ever be and have more time than we think, and closing out the album is the reflective 'Too Old to Die Young' featuring Jordie Lane, a meditation on aging and the quiet triumph of surviving your twenties.
Two Black Horses has found a home not just with long term Emily fans, but across major platforms, landing on Apple Music playlists New in Country, New Music Daily, Southern Country, Heaps Indie, Indie + Chill and Spotify's Heaps Country, Chilled Country, Tapestry, and New Music Friday AU/NZ, with national radio support from ABC, ABC Country and CMT's music video channel.
For an artist who’s been a cornerstone of the Australian music scene for over a decade, Two Black Horses is a reintroduction and masterclass in authenticity. With her tour selling out and the accolades rolling in, Emily Lubitz is living proof that when art leads the way, people follow.
