NEW SINGLE: Emily Lubitz 'Don't Worry You Got Time' + Video
Emily Lubitz reveals latest single ‘Don’t Worry You Got Time’, accompanied by a charming video featuring local farm animals + East Coast Tour Dates
Back with a hopeful reminder that it’s not too late to live the life you dreamed of. Australian songwriter Emily Lubitz is releasing the next taste of her upcoming LP Two Black Horses, with new single ‘Don't Worry You Got Time’. Out Friday 18 July, the new album sees Emily step into a country tinged take on her indie-folk style, which she will be taking on tour up and down the East Coast and Darwin. She’ll play headline shows joined by her 4 piece band, as well as an appearance at Mullum Roots Festival and will join blues musician Ash Grunwald on his tour.
Out Thursday 5 June, ‘Don’t Worry You Got Time’ was written alongside two of Emily’s favourite songwriters; Darcy McNulty (JAZZPARTY, Clairey Brown and the Bangin Rackettes) and Harry James Angus (The Cat Empire, Jackson Jackson). The track is for anyone who thinks that life is passing them by, whether it’s a trip you want to take, a book you want to write, or love you want to find, maybe you’ve got more time than you think. ‘I don’t often write optimistic songs, so I’m proud of the reassuring tone of this one. We are as old as we’ve ever been, but we’re as young as we’ll ever be, so don’t worry so much, we've got time.’ - Emily Lubitz
Accompanying the single is a video filmed out on a local farm - "I drive past Bob’s farm most days on my way to town. When the kids are in the car, they always look out for the emus. I asked Bob if we could shoot a little clip with his animals, and he was very welcoming. I brought a bottle of top shelf whiskey and promised to make him a star. He didn’t expect to be in the clip, but I think he does a beautiful job. He was born in the valley where we live and was telling me stories about its history, including about our property. It was a fun day of dancing in the dust." - Emily Lubitz
The forthcoming LP Two Black Horses sounds like an old Hollywood film, starring Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline and Phoebe Bridgers, who go on holiday together and talk about their feelings. She wrote the album for her family. It covers themes of forbidden love, immigration, death, loss and growing older with love and defiance. Produced by Emily’s husband and long-time collaborator, Harry James Angus, Two Black Horses is a deeply personal collection of songs that speaks to heartache, heritage and hope.
The LP opening title track ‘Two Black Horses Tumbling Out Of The Snow’ features a recording of Emily’s mum and uncles singing a Swiss folk song, and continues through first single ‘Big Time’ and into the tender ache of being a mother with a dedication to her kids in ‘Stay Tender-Hearted’. The nine track work touches on impressions of unconditional love in ‘Everything Good Is Somewhere Else’, with themes of home and holiday in ‘Kardashian Winter’ and ‘My Summer Holiday’, and her parents' story of forbidden love in ‘My Rita’. From the current single ‘Don’t Worry You Got Time’, the album closes with 'Too Old To Die Young’. "The song was originally written about passing the age of 27 and feeling like I’d dodged a bullet. With the whole 27 club thing. As I get older, it takes on new meanings. Having Jordie Lane sing with me on this track was very special." explains Emily Lubitz
Having performed on some of the world’s biggest stages and premiere international festivals, including Winnipeg Folk Festival (CAN), Calgary Folk Music Festival (CAN), Haldern Pop (GER), Laneway Festival (AUS), WOMAD (AUS), Woodford Music Festival (AUS) and many more, Emily Lubitz is no stranger to the stage. Through Tinpan Orange, the gates opened wide to radio attention and a fast growing fan base, and Emily went on to appear on SBS’s Rockwiz, dueting with Paul Dempsey and singing the viral YouTube sensation, Dumb Ways to Die. She has collaborated with the likes of Paul Kelly, Martha Wainwright, Jen Cloher, Emma Donovan and Mama Kin, and yet her solo work is imbued with the raw energy of a breakthrough artist.
Don’t miss your opportunity to hear Emily Lubitz bring this record to life on the road at a show near you.
