MUSIC NEWS: West Set 2022 Line-up Announcement

West Set returns for 2022 with new venues, local and international artists, celebrating the best Footscray has to offer!

The City of Maribyrnong
is excited to welcome the return of their beloved live music event for its fourth instalment and the reinvention of West Set as part of ‘On The Road Again’, a Victorian Government initiative to support the return of live music events across Victoria. This festival will once again take over the inner west suburb or Footscray with live music programming on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays across the second half of October offering Free Entry for all shows.

Footscray’s unique venue density makes it the perfect location to host the festival, West Set will boast a lineup of diverse acts across four local spaces, all within walking distance of one another and some of Footscray’s favourite food and beverage hubs from Friday 14 - Sunday 30 October 2022.

“Maribyrnong is home to an abundance of gifted musicians and producers – we’re thrilled to be delivering a festival that celebrates home-grown musical talent in local venues. We also acknowledge the support of the State Government’s ‘On The Road Again’ initiative which means we can make this festival free and accessible for all.” - Cr Anthony Tran, Mayor of Maribyrnong City Council

Local recording studio and bandroom Kindred Studios, music school and shop Chasing Sound, along with pop up venues Las Palmas and Railway Reserve, all located on the traditional lands of the Kulin nation will play host to West Set 2022. The City of Maribyrnong are proud to be partnering on this year’s program with Melbourne International Jazz Festival, multi-disciplinary studio ThinOzone, local tastemakers and curators Finding Figaro, plus Footscray staple Kindred Studios who have all curated incredible line-ups featuring local and international talent including POOKIE (Live), Black Jesus Experience, Jamie Tiller (UK), Birdz, DJ JNETT, Colette, Amaru Tribe, Chikchika, Parvyn, Belda (IND), Darcy Justice, Eden Burns (NZ) and more!

“On The Road Again has already reignited live music in regional Victoria and on the streets of Melbourne’s CBD, and will now kick-start a huge line-up of live music events across inner Melbourne.

This massive line-up of events will appeal to every music fan, provide new opportunities for musicians and performers, support local businesses and get our live music scene pumping like never before.”
- Steve Dimopoulos, Minister for Creative Industries

The key venue highlight for this year's event is the pop up venue Las Palmas located on the Footscray Library forecourt creating a 40/50’s inspired Latin/Cuban styled jazz bar. The team at the City of Maribyrnong wishes to transport people to a different time and country, with Ethiopian flourishes in the design referencing the Ethiopian cafes that surround the library on Barkly street, “One of our performers Solomon Sisay works and performs in a little Ethiopian café just 500 from here and you can often hear the sounds of Ethiopian jazz filter out the back and through Footscray on Saturday nights – I really like that and wanted to have this pop up venue do the same, says Paul Shea, Coordinator Festivals and Visitation, Maribyrnong City Council.

With something for all ages, the program includes daytime sessions at Las Palmas with Kidstruments Live! By Playable Streets for families and friends, to late night parties programs, West Set 2022 is all inclusive with something for the whole community to enjoy.

“After being one of the festival's venues for the original West Set in 2021, Kindred Bandroom couldn't be more excited to be a part of this year's program. After many reschedules, we can't wait to partner Maribyrnong City Council and On The Road Again for this three week long festival in Melbourne's inner-west, supporting the recovery of the live music industry and local music community.” - Angus Ingram, Kindred Studios

Do not miss your chance to catch West Set’s culturally diverse lineup of live music and DJs crossing genres from hip hop, jazz, azmari, funk, gospel, R&B, soul, electronic sounds, afro-latin beats to contemporary music this October.
