Award-winning songwriter Reb Fountain is back with a new alt-pop song ‘Forever’, a single with a mysticism compelling you to dance amongst her noir-folk musical landscape. Out Tuesday 29 October, ‘Forever’ is the next taste of Reb’s upcoming album How Love Bends, slated for release on Friday 7 March 2025 via The Orchard. Reb Fountain and her full band are embarking on a nationwide New Zealand tour throughout April and May 2025 to celebrate How Love Bends. Known for her spellbinding performances and ability to weave introspective narratives through her music, fans across the country will have the opportunity to witness the magic of Reb Fountain live. Those who have experienced Reb's full flight live know how compelling she is on stage, these shows are not to be missed.
With lyrics soaked in surrealism and instrumentation and strings that conjure the divine, the main hook in ‘Forever’ is a mantra for the age that acknowledges the cyclical nature of our human condition and acts as a call of resistance to the inevitability of our course.
“Forever was born of a dream; I woke up in the night with a melody, scraps of lyrics, the chorus and a basic outline. That day I went to Dave’s and we built the song from this vision. I wanted the atmosphere of the song to harness the sage wisdom of the dream, to feel like a surreal exploration into the known, unseen and mystical. It was also a chance to express the plight of the subconscious, wrestling with and coming to terms with one’s self; with myself. I look forward to the next incarnation – putting this dreamwork into practice live on stage! We do this Forever.” - Reb Fountain
Exploring new approaches to songwriting, revealing nuanced layers with endless depths, How Love Bends is at once haunting and alluring, mystical and triumphant. Reb Fountain muses on the transformative power of love. Imprinted with our fear, desire, hurt and hope as much as it is an expression of our suffering and joy, love is an ever-evolving shapeshifter that lives in our marrow; magnetic and emergent it is loosed by its archer to ride on the wind. ‘Love is a first kiss, a late night call, an ache of longing that can break your heart or a long drive with the top down to anywhere but here. Love can equally be contained, repressed and longed for as much as it can save, nurture and embolden. Love is a measure of our humanity or how lost we have become.’ - Reb Fountain.
A consummate recording artist and performer, Reb Fountain has captivated audiences with her live performances, selling out shows across New Zealand in some of Aotearoa’s most iconic theatres, making her Australian live debut at Womadelaide, and has supported the likes of ‘Crowded House’ on their ‘To The Island’ NZ tour, and Marlon Williams on his 2022 tour across UK and Europe. Her music has seen her awarded the Taite Music Prize in 2021, Best Country Music Album in Aotearoa Music Awards, and an APRA Best Song Award, with her last LP Iris debuting at No. 1 on the NZ Charts, and being gifted to Anthony Albanese by Jacinda Adern in Trans-Tasman exchange.
