+ Preorders for I Am Major Zulu EP
Delighting in the simple joys, Major Zulu releases the next taste of her upcoming EP I Am Major Zulu, with her newest offering ‘Music Sounds Better With You’, out Wednesday 3 April. A heartfelt reclamation of everyday charms that are easy to lose sight of in the whirlwind of modern life, the next single joins the previous ‘Honey Honey’ and ‘Down Under’, unveiling the whole EP on Friday 2 May. Major Zulu and the full band will celebrate with a night to remember with a launch at Eora’s Caterpillar Club on Saturday 3 May.
Creating her own piece of relaxation and happiness, ‘Music Sounds Better With You’ is an ode to the magical place music holds in their busy lives. ‘My partner and I lead busy lives, and sometimes it feels like we’re just ships passing in the night. But there's a constant refuge, our regular meeting point, the record player in our little home basement. It’s our chill space where we unwind and play songs for each other, allowing us to decompress and reconnect through the music we love. Sometimes we spend 30 minutes there, other times up to 2 hours, enjoying music and maybe a little wine.’
I Am Major Zulu represents a moment of profound artistic and personal arrival; a timeless blend of past influences and future aspirations, leaving any sense of regret at the door. With a nomadic existence and journey that has spanned continents from Zambia to the UK, Paris and Australia, Major Zulu describes the EP as ‘a snapshot of a moment in time where I've found peace, love, and a sense of belonging’. Following on from the opening track and latest single, ‘Music Sounds Better With You’, ‘Down Under’ celebrates the beauty of the land while ‘Honey Honey’ shares her personal story of falling in love with Australia. Capturing the spirit of seaside road trips in ‘Byron Bound’, ‘Narcotic’ encapsulates a story of self-healing and breaking free of self-sabotage before the closing track ‘Fill My Cup’ ‘serves as a cautionary tale for those seeking completion in love amidst the distractions of modern life’ - Major Zulu
Major's earthy vocal tones, timeless songs and artful storytelling make every performance an emotional journey. Whether you're looking to laugh, cry, or simply get lost in a moment, her music offers a profound sense of connection and reflection. One moment, you're immersed in the vibrant jazz scene of Paris and the next, you're transported to the heart of Zambia's history, feeling the echoes of her father's childhood under colonial rule and his activism for democracy. She has captured audiences at sold-out shows, including the Sydney International Jazz Festival, Jazz in the Vineyards, Art Gallery of NSW, and more, and performed alongside the likes of Norah Jones, Amy Winehouse, James Morrison, Paolo Nutini, and Earth, Wind and Fire. Previous singles from her upcoming EP have seen her featured across the AMRAP Charts and receive support from community radio across Australia, including Radio Adelaide, 2SER, 4ZZZ, Eastside Radio, 5 Triple Z, and more.
Join Major Zulu on her journey across her musical influences around the world and her search for a new home in Australia.
