The most anticipated accessible gig on the local calendar Groove Tunes just got even more enchanting with the arrival of additional supports; rising R&B artist-producer R.em.edy and storyteller and ukuleleist Bette Foord. They join artists KYE, Cool Out Sun, and Voli K announced last month, for Groove Tunes’ night of accessible fun and entertainment taking place Saturday 3 June at Richmond’s renowned venue The Corner Hotel. Accessibility consultancy, Tibi Access is thrilled to be hosting the second installation, demonstrating what an accessible live music event looks like, creating an opportunity for people with disabilities to attend a live music event, and encouraging the music industry and beyond to excel standards of accessibility and inclusivity.

Known for her powerful voice, intimate lyricism and impressive production chops, soul superstar R.em.edy is set to take The Corner Hotel stage this June. With a debut EP Last Summer that dropped late 2022, receiving support from NME Australia, Musicfeeds, Triple J and Acclaim and more, prepare to share in her emotional vulnerability as her songwriting weaves through her lived experiences with feminism, ableism, relationships, heartbreak, self love, and more. Joining R.em.edy for this groove-filled genre-expanding line up are the voice and ukulele of Bette Foord. Picture the colourful exuberance of the 50s with a touch of mermaid magic, her unique melodramatic flair, and songs that touch on her lived experience with disability and themes of love, loss, online dating, sex, will be sure to make you smile and warm your heart.

"I was lucky enough to get a ticket to Groove Tunes, last year and I was blown away! Not just by the awesome musicians, playing but also by just how accessible & inclusive it is! I've never felt so welcomed, as a disabled music lover. It was a dream of mine to perform at Groove Tunes, one day - so to be asked to play, this year... it's a dream come true! Seriously. I'm so honoured and so excited" - Bette Foord

Tibi Access was created to change the landscape of live music, events and venues, by founder and Groove Tunes founder Dina Bassile, a person who uses a wheelchair and has lived experience of the Australian music industry’s gaps. At the core of Tibi is a spirit of inclusivity and a will to open up gigs and events of all sizes to everyone and for this year’s event. Groove Tunes will be bringing back Pay It Forward allowing members of the public to purchase a ticket for someone in the disability community, Companion Tickets, accessible signage, Auslan interpreters, an accessible website, an accessible entrance and lift, accessible + gender-neutral toilets, lowered bar, lyric videos, SUBPAC tactile vests, braille tickets (on request) and sensory zone.

Groove Tunes is super excited to have two SUBPAC tactile vests available at the event. SUBPAC is a tactile audio system that consists of a combination of tactile transducers, vibro-tactile membranes, electronics and textiles, designed to deliver a physical dimension of sound. SUBPAC will be available in a wearable format and delivers a complex and nuanced experience to create an accurate tactile representation of our audio input being used across the site. The SUBPAC vests have been described as being equivalent to a headphone for the D/deaf and hard of hearing community. Groove Tunes are proud to bring this technology to our event in partnership with the NSW government.

A line-up and event that contributes to helping improve the recognition and removal of barriers faced by people with disabilities, providing access to musicians who live with disability to showcase their work, Groove Tunes promises to be one big celebration of music, dancing, inclusivity and diversity.
