NEW SINGLE: General Mack's Grapeshot 'Grenades & Stomach Flu'
General Mack’s Grapeshot launches dark, fuzzed-out debut single 'Grenades and Stomach Flu'
General Mack’s Grapeshot (GMG) is the conspicuously titled musical project of Australian multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer, Mitchy McIvor. His debut single 'Grenades and Stomach Flu' is out Wednesday 28 August, blending dark, fuzzed-out riffs with dreamy melodies that explore concepts of time, and introduce the first sounds of this exciting new artist.
‘Grenades and Stomach Flu’ was mixed by local producer Robert Muinos (Didirri, Julia Jacklin, Jess Locke, Nat Vazer), the two connecting over an appreciation for bold mixing selections, and is accompanied by a clip that features selected footage from 1963 film ‘The Yesterday Machine’. The footage reflects the song’s lyrics that explore time and the impact, or otherwise, of transporting into another time dimension. The absurdist dancing scenes perfectly represent the strange, empty ways of existence, and the unlikelihood of real change, regardless of any capacity to do so." - General Mack

Sharing a ‘Mac’ like Mitchy McIvor’s ‘Mc’, General Mack, an Austrian general most remembered for commanding an embarrassing surrender to Napoleon, was an unlikely inspiration for the project’s name. Having played in numerous bands in Melbourne and LA, including Cannon and Damndogs, Mitchy McIvor drew on the familiar guitar drenched moments from his previous work creating cinematic textures with drum loops and oscillating synth bass. With scrapbooks filled with notes, phrases, and conversation, General Mack’s Grapeshot’s music takes inspiration from novels, short stories and poetry, drawing on dominant production techniques inspired by the works of Beck, The Kills, St Vincent, Danger Mouse, Serge Gainsbourg, and the War on Drugs.
