Commanding performer Thndo (fka Thando) announces ‘The Reintroduction Tour’ + signs with August MGMT

“Sikwila is not just a prodigy of the jazz and soul styles, she is the embodiment of the genres' most prolific spirits” - Joe Dolan, The Music

Following her critically acclaimed performances on The Voice Australia in 2022, Zimbabwean-born ‘First Lady of Soul and R&B’ Thndo presents ‘The Reintroduction Tour’. Her journey begins a new chapter of immersive songwriting and emotive performances with powerhouse vocals, and a new management team, joining the family at August MGMT with Joel Heywood at the helm and home to esteemed artists The Merindas, Emily Lubitz, Tessa Thames, Ellie Drennan, and Stiff Gins.

With a statement as bold as her stage presence, ‘The Reintroduction Tour’ will invite new audiences into Thndo’s genre transcendent world of music, and is sure to delight audiences from all walks of life. Under the musical direction of James Bowers with stunning accompaniment by strings of The Penny Quartet, ‘The Reintroduction Tour’ will see Thndo and her band take to the stages with headline shows in Victoria, NSW, Queensland ACT plus special performances at Chapel Off Chapel as part of the Victoria Government ‘On The Road Again’ Initiative, Wangaratta Jazz Festival and Wynnum Fringe Festival.

“Signing Thndo has been the most incredible full circle moment for me. I remember over 10 years ago being in the second year of my degree when Thndo was auditioning to study at the same college, and we were all stopped in our tracks by this mind-blowing voice in the room next to us.

From that moment, I've watched her with admiration for over a decade as she played in bands and immersed herself in the Melbourne Music Scene before going on to release her own music, receive radio play, tour, play festivals and begin to receive the acclaim she was always destined for. And now, It’s an honour and privilege to welcome Thndo to August MGMT, and to be involved in the exciting next chapter of her career.” - Joel Heywood

Working with Joel is the next exciting step in my career, and with his enduring support over the last decade, I’m looking forward to breaking new ground in the Australian and international music industry.” - Thndo

The Australian music scene is no stranger to Thndo; she has been heard on collaborations with local powerhouse Sampa the Great and Remi drawing positive reviews from Triple J and a long streak of successful releases. Her latest EP Life in Colour touches on Thndo’s experiences of growing up black in Australia, her struggles with displacement, discrimination and a deeper understanding of black pride, with R&B, Hip Hop and Afrobeat’s elements interwoven throughout.

She has commanded massive crowds at festivals such as Bluesfest, WOMAdelaide, Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Groovin The Moo, BigSound, Jungle Love and Woodford Folk Festival and fast forward to 2022 this new era of Thndo’s artistry is cementing the legacy of one of Australia’s most captivating vocalists with live performances not to be missed. Every performance is a statement, a triumph of powerful lyricism, rich-ranged vocals and smooth backing instrumentation – turning onward the wheel of live music, show by show.
