Major Zulu I Am Major Zulu EP out now
+ focus single 'Byron Bound'
+ upcoming Vivid Sydney Shows
Major Zulu unveils her six track work I Am Major Zulu featuring docus track 'Byron Bound', a new video for 'Music Sounds Better With You' and announcing three upcoming shows at Vivid Sydney 2025.
I Am Major Zulu represents a moment of profound artistic and personal arrival; a timeless blend of past influences and future aspirations, leaving any sense of regret at the door. With a nomadic existence and journey that has spanned continents from Zambia to the UK, Paris and Australia, Major Zulu describes the EP as ‘a snapshot of a moment in time where I've found peace, love, and a sense of belonging’.
Focus single 'Byron Bound' is a nostalgic highway hymn that pays tribute to the legend of Byron, a sun-drenched escape from the clamor of city life to the expansive embrace of the Australian coast. It captures a spirit of freedom that echoes deep within us, a call to adventure that beckons you to pack your bags, grab some snacks and drinks, crank up the volume on the radio, and drive away, leaving the bright city lights fading into the past. 'I can still picture those cherished days from my childhood when my father would load us all into the back of his big truck, embarking on journeys to his hometown. The thrill of the open road was intoxicating; we'd wind through the night, finally arriving just as dawn broke. Those trips were a balm for the soul, offering a sense of peace and belonging.' - Major Zulu
Alongside the focus single, Major Zulu has released a video for EP opening track 'Music Sounds Better With You', a performance style video which sees her dressed in Australian brands Dref By D and Dinosaur Designs. 'I wanted to make a video that was fun and happy! I worked with friends and people that make me happy, I wore clothes and accessories that make me happy.' - Major Zulu
Major's earthy vocal tones, timeless songs and artful storytelling make every performance an emotional journey. Whether you're looking to laugh, cry, or simply get lost in a moment, her music offers a profound sense of connection and reflection. One moment, you're immersed in the vibrant jazz scene of Paris and the next, you're transported to the heart of Zambia's history, feeling the echoes of her father's childhood under colonial rule and his activism for democracy. She has captured audiences at sold-out shows, including the Sydney International Jazz Festival, Jazz in the Vineyards, Art Gallery of NSW, and more, and performed alongside the likes of Norah Jones, Amy Winehouse, James Morrison, Paolo Nutini, and Earth, Wind and Fire. Previous singles from her upcoming EP have seen her featured across the AMRAP Charts and receive support from community radio across Australia, including Radio Adelaide, 2SER, 4ZZZ, Eastside Radio, 5 Triple Z, and more.
